What we say
Fish is an excellent source of protein. It contains essential vitamins (particularly A and D) and minerals (such as iodine). It's generally a healthier alternative to meat (it's low in saturated fat) and most of us should be eating more of it –– two or three fish meals a week –– according to the Australian Dietary Guidelines.
SEAWAYS Golden Sea Creatures contain 31% fish and 28% vegetables (carrot, corn and onion), with the remainder being made up of water and the cheese batter. They make a pretty good quick and easy meal option, particularly if teamed up with salad or vegies, but with only one third fish, they're not as good an option as a plain piece of filleted fish. BIRDS EYE Fish Fingers, by way of comparison, are 56% fish, although they don't have the vegies added.
We've all heard about the health benefits of eating fish, particularly fish with the healthy omega-3 fats. But SEAWAYS Golden Sea Creatures, like many frozen fish products, are made with white fish mince, usually hake and hoki. Hake and hoki are low in total fat but unfortunately they're also low in omega-3 fats.
Additives: mineral salts (450, 451, 500), emulsifier (471, 481, 472), colours (160c, 160b, 100), preservative (282), vegetable gum (412).
